1. Recesses and nooks

When dealing with a small space it's important that you use the area as efficiently as possible. Here they've used the far nook for the shower, while the basin is narrow and compact, wasting absolutely no space. The recessed shelving is another great space saver, as protruding shelves would shrink the room and limit the flow. It's also worth noting the combination of timber floors and textured tiles; when your bathroom looks this stunning it greatly distracts from the size.

2. Smoke and mirrors

This is probably the easiest trick of all, using a large mirror to effectively double our perception of the size of the space. The designers of this bathroom have also used sleek and shiny materials for the walls, bouncing light around, and creating even more reflections to further expand our sense of this room.

3. Use white

Even in large rooms dark colours tend to shrink a space and can feel oppressive when they aren't used carefully, so avoid this completely by using brilliant whites. White reflects light and colour and is soothing on the senses, making us feel comfortable and relaxed, as well making the room feel a whole lot bigger.

4. Use plenty of shelves

Always make sure you have enough shelves to store all of your bathroom essentials. If not your counter and potentially your floor will end up cluttered with toiletries. How you use shelves will depend to some extent on the space available, but this bathroom cleverly uses the negative space below the sink meaning there isn't any wasted space.

5. The little details

A lot of little considerations can combine to make a huge impact on your perception of a room. This bathroom uses a curtain to delineate the shower area, so that when the shower is not in use it is open floor space, while shelves in the corner give you a spot to put your shampoos and soaps, with another set above the toilet for towels. All of these economical little touches combine to make this tiny bathroom feel much more spacious than it is.

6. Special accessories

Sometimes the best approach to dealing with a small bathroom is to distract yourself from its size with beautiful decorations and accessories that will charm you every time you step inside. Consider getting yourself a beautiful mirror, or placing pot plants around to freshen the space up, and you won't waste a moment thinking about how small your bathroom may be.

7. Cabinets

One of the most effective ways to make a space feel more expansive is to hide away any clutter, so cabinets are absolutely crucial, but cabinets with sliding doors are even better! This means that you don't have to account for the space of the open door, so it can be placed anywhere in the bathroom, and with everything out of sight your countertops will be clear and tidy.

8. Using the wall to mount fittings

Standalone bathroom fittings take up substantially more space, so anything you can attach to the wall you should, such as the bathroom sink, shower head, and bath in this bathroom. They've also used more recessed shelving to store towels and toiletries, we can not stress how effective an idea this is!

9. Using the corners

In a small bathroom every little corner needs to be exploited. You can do this either by building custom shelves, or with suction cup racks like these, and in doing so you'll free up space along the walls so there isn't any looming shelves shrinking the space.

So easy, and yet so effective! Follow these simple tips and your bathroom will feel positively enormous, or at the very least it won't feel quite so small! For more great ideas you can use in the bathroom check out this helpful article on cleaning glass.
