Quality, comfort and style are three aspects of architecture and interior design. But as we all know, these three do not always go hand in hand. You may see instances – in the form of houses or interiors – where “quality” seemed to have had a successful marriage with “style”. Assuring comfort with right materials is also possible. But a blend of all three? It is not easy to find such instances, but the situation is not completely hopeless either.
Today, we will present you with an elegant home that seems to have struck the right balace between all three elements. Set in a scenic spot in Uitikon, Switzerland, it also happens to be one of the fine examples of contemporary architecture. Stay with us as we begin our survey of this beautiful Swiss home.
The gleaming white façade, clean lines and surrounding greenery exemplify what we have come to know as modern design. Large glass panelled vertical windows and sliding doors may not have been designed according to the exact format prescribed by Le Corbusier, but they certainly fulfil his dream of banishing any of the barriers that exist between the exterior and interior of a building.
The project was realised by Meier Architekten, established and spearheaded by Egon Meier. He has already made a name for himself and his small team of designers as a reputable and trustworthy team well know for their excellent work.
Here you can see a part of the living room and the narrow patio that encircles the entire front façade. The spectacular views of Uitikon’s countryside and the hilly terrain beyond it look alluring enough. But the interior is quite charming too.
The living room is minimally styled, perhaps not to undermine the beauty of the surroundings. It is decorated with a large black sectional sofa which also has arrangements for storage. Simple coffee tables, a small stool and a monochromatic area rug are some of the other noteworthy items of décor. It also has a few potted plants to embellish the space with their cheerful presence.
The space between the living room and kitchen has been dedicated to a dining area. The materials are inspired by nature. So you will see an extensive use of stone, wood and brown colour ceramic tiles in the interior.
The dining area is decorated with a large table boasting of contemporary elegance and a set of stylish chairs. A prominent pendant lighting fixture hangs from the ceiling.
The neat organisation of this space, coupled with nearly exclusively white décor, creates a delightful impression. Cabinets, set against one of the walls, and storage units under the worktop and kitchen island help to keep the space clutter free.
A set of bar stools are placed alongside the kitchen island. This space also has direct access to the patio.
A low and simple cot is the focus of this ground floor bedroom. It is stylised with a chic lighting fixture.
Access to the beautifully manicured garden outside is provided with the help of a large door. The feature wall is coated in brown, and the long curtains also have a dark brownish tint.
While walls and ceiling complement the brown ceramic flooring, as well as the mosaic décor on the shower room wall. The bathroom is reasonably spacious and made more expansive with the help of big frameless mirrors.
Wash basins, sinks and sanitary fittings are all white. A few candles and potted plants are also placed to make this interior look and feel welcoming.
This house is also blessed with spacious sundeck built on the first floor terrace. Another smaller sundeck occupies a corner space of the garden. This one is decorated with simple wooden bench, candles and a lantern.
The beauty of the outside is attractive enough to captivate one for hours without taking any notice of the time’s rapid passage.
