House Milne is situated in Lanseria, North of Johannesburg, in one of the most sought after golf and equestrian residential estates in South Africa.
The house plan is designed in 2 wings, East and West, joined by a steel and glass entertainment area, an open landscape Atrium, and the Entrance Gallery to the house. The public and private areas of the house plan occupy each of these wings. The East wing being the main bedroom and more private area of the house, while the West wing is occupied by the public and entertainment areas of the house. Both wings open up to the northern sunny landscaped garden and swimming pool terrace which in turn borders hole 9 of the golf course.
Architecturally, and due to its location in an Equestrian Estate, the inspiration was to design a house that reminisced two renovated horse stables joined together by landscape, steel and glass. Brickwork and timber rafters were used to represent the traditional stable elements while steel and glass was used to create light and open areas that together with a central Atrium create a seamless indoor/outdoor integration of spaces.
