The chalet is situated near Hemsedal, Norway, in an established chalet community about 865metres above sea level. The location offers views of the magnificent Skogshorn mountain to the west and the lake to the south as well as being surrounded by rich natural birch woodland.
The 150m2 building has been carefully moulded to the landscape which has been allowed to be retained largely in its natural state. The client wished for a rural retreat and the design clearly combines the livingspaces inside with nature outside. The building’s aesthetics draws on the building traditions of the area and is defined by dry stone walls, pitched roofs and a variety of wooden cladding that gives it texture. The design separates clearly between the central living spaces and sleeping areas, each located in separate wings. The plan creates a sheltered courtyard catching all of the afternoon & evening sun.
